Abstract:
Complex perovskite oxides exhibit extremely rich physical properties in terms of magnetism, electrical transport, and electrical polarization characteristics due to the competition and coupling of many degrees of freedom. The B-site ions and O ions in perovskite form six-coordinated octahedral units, which are connected at a common vertex toward the basic framework of the perovskite oxide, providing a crucial platform to tailor physical properties. The rotation or distortion of the oxygen octahedra will tip the competing balance, leading to many emergent ground states. To further clarify the subtle relationship between emergent properties and oxide octahedral behavior, this article reviews the structure of perovskite oxides, the characterization methods of oxygen octahedral rotation and the response of transport, electrical polarization and magnetism of several typical perovskite heterostructures to oxygen octahedral rotation modes. With knowledge of how to manipulate the octahedral rotation behavior and regulate the physical properties of perovskite oxides, rationally designing the sample manufacturing process can effectively guide the development and application of novel electronic functional materials and devices.
Twisted plasma waves driven by twisted ponderomotive force

Abstract:
We present the results of twisted plasma waves driven by twisted ponderomotive force. With the beating of two, co-propagating, Laguerre-Gaussian (LG) orbital angular momentum (OAM) laser pulses with different frequencies and also different twist indices, we can obtain the twisted ponderomotive force. Three-dimensional particle-in-cell simulations are used to demonstrate the twisted plasma waves driven by lasers. The twisted plasma waves have an electron density perturbation with a helical rotating structure. Different from the predictions of the linear fluid theory, the simulation results show a nonlinear rotating current and a static axial magnetic field. Along with the rotating current is the axial OAM carried by particles in the twisted plasma waves. A detailed theoretical analysis of twisted plasma waves is also given.

Investigating Galactic cosmic rays with γ-ray astronomy

2023, 53(1): 2. doi: 10.52396/JUSTC-2021-0269
Abstract:
Cosmic rays (CRs) are one of the most important components in the interstellar medium (ISM), and the origin of CRs remains a mystery. The diffusion of CRs in turbulent magnetic fields erases the information on the distribution of CR accelerators to a large extent. The energy dependent diffusion of CRs also significantly modifies the initial (acceleration) spectra of CRs. In this regard, γ-rays, the secondary products of interactions of CRs with gas and photons in the ISM, provide us with more information about the origin of CRs. More specifically, the γ-ray emissions associated with gas, can be used to study the distribution of CRs throughout the Galaxy; discrete γ-ray sources can elucidate the locations of individual CR accelerators. Here, the current status and prospects in these fields are reviewed.

Abstract:
To deal with emergencies and disasters without rescue workers being exposed to dangerous environments, this paper presents a mobile rescue robot, Earthshaker. As a combination of a tracked chassis and a six-degree-of-freedom robotic arm, as well as miscellaneous sensors and controllers, Earthshaker is capable of traversing diverse terrains and fulfilling dexterous manipulation. Specifically, Earthshaker has a unique swing arm—dozer blade structure that can help clear up cumbersome obstacles and stabilize the robot on stairs, a multimodal teleoperation system that can adapt to different transmission conditions, a depth camera-aided robotic arm and gripper that can realize semiautonomous manipulation and a LiDAR aided base that can achieve autonomous navigation in unknown areas. It was these special systems that supported Earthshaker to win the first Advanced Technology & Engineering Challenge (A-TEC) championships, standing out of 40 robots from the world and showing the efficacy of system integration and the advanced control philosophy behind it.

Abstract:
With the increasing demand for online home-furnishing products, product delivery services, especially installation services, have become increasingly regarded as bottlenecks and key factors for success. Meanwhile, customers have different preferences for a combination of delivery modes because of separated or synchronized logistics delivery from installation services. It is essential for online home-furnishing e-retailers to self-build or outsource installation services. This study investigates the optimal delivery mode selection of home-furnishing e-retailers in a home-furnishing supply chain consisting of a home-furnishing e-retailer, a third-party installation service provider (ISP), and a third-party logistics service provider (LSP). Specifically, we explore three alternative modes: (ⅰ) The home-furnishing e-retailer undertakes the installation service (Mode E); (ⅱ) the ISP undertakes the installation service (Mode I); (ⅲ) the LSP undertakes the installation service (Mode L). The results reveal that the self-build mode does not always generate the highest installation service level, and the integrated delivery mode may generate the highest installation service level when the cost performance of the installation service is relatively low. Moreover, optimal delivery mode selection depends on the installation service’s cost performance. When the installation service’s cost performance is relatively low, the e-retailer and the LSP reach a “win-win” situation from the integrated delivery mode. When the installation service’s cost performance is relatively high and the self-build fixed cost is low, the e-retailer and the LSP reach a win-win situation from the self-build mode. Interestingly, compared with the outsourced integrated service mode, the self-build integrated service mode is not a better choice for the e-retailer if the self-build fixed cost is too high. Our study contributes to the growing literature on home furnishing and guides the implementation of delivery strategies for large-product online retailers.

2023, 53(1): 6. doi: 10.52396/JUSTC-2022-0079
Abstract:
The transportation industry has become an important source of carbon emissions with rapid economic development and the acceleration of urbanization. Identifying the key factors of carbon emissions is crucial for energy conservation, emission reduction and green development in the transportation industry. Here, variance analysis was used to study the influencing factors of carbon emissions in the transportation industry in Fujian Province, China. The results showed that transportation efficiency have the most significant impact on carbon emissions, followed by carbon emission intensity in transportation, and then the transportation structure. Meanwhile, there was a significant interaction between transportation efficiency and structure. Therefore, innovative energy-saving and emission-reduction technologies for transportation efficiency should be studied as the focus for the green and low-carbon development of the transportation industry.
